A sink with a front-facing area. The countertop is cut to accommodate this feature in the sink area. Also known as a farm or farmhouse sink.
Most kitchen sinks are either undermount or overmount, but the protruding front of the apron or farmhouse sink goes past the edge of the cabinet and is front-mounted. The base cabinet would have to be designed to support the weight of a heavier basin of the apron sink. Additional panels (dishwasher panels) are used to support this structure and the countertop wraps around the back of the sink.
