Medium Density Fiberboard

This is a type of engineered wood created by taking fine wood fibers and bonding it with wax and resin and heated to form a hard surface. This material is used in some types of RTA furniture and is known for its durability.

MDF is an engineered wood, formed by similar methods to particleboard, but is stronger because of the process. While particleboard is made with wood chips and sawdust, the wood is broken down even further into wood fibers. When the resin and wax bonds with these smaller fibers, they create a sturdier material to use in most construction. The interior is more uniform looking than that of particleboard. However, MDF is subject to warping with excess moisture so it is not recommended for outside furniture or damp climates.
