Shaker-style cabinets are characterized by five-piece construction with a recessed center panel for the doors and sometimes, drawers. It is a popular style because of its classic look and versatility across several kitchen interiors.
Shaker-style cabinets are named after the Shakers, a group known for their simple but well-designed woodworking. The five pieces of the Shaker door consist of two wood horizontal wood pieces (rails), two longer vertical pood pieces (stiles) and the center recessed panel. While Shaker doors are standard in appearance, Shaker drawers vary from a smaller, horizontal version of the Shaker door to a slab front panel.
