In cabinets, a hinge that has hydraulics built into the cabinet door, so that when it closes, it slows down before it completely closes.
Soft-close hinges not only make closing the cabinet door silent, but it reduces the impact of the door hitting the frame, making less wear on the cabinet. This is different from “self-closing,” where at a certain point of closing the door, spring in the door mechanism takes over to pull the door closed. Many soft-close hinges also have a self-closing mechanism in it.
