Thermofoil is a surface material where a thin layer of vinyl is vacuum-sealed onto an engineered wood material like MDF. This is usually applied to MDF since MDF warps under dampness; thermofoil forms a protective covering that locks out moisture from touching the material.
Thermofoil is considered one of the most affordable options for a cabinet surface and can be versatile in its appearance, replicating the look of wood grain or other materials. The process works best on flat, level surfaces like Euro-style cabinet doors, yet it is possible to cover non-flat panel styles like Shaker doors. The thermofoil surface is easy to clean since it is a nonporous, plastic surface.
